Hi Guys!!
I have the pleasure of having Karen Greco here as a Guest. Hope you enjoy!!
Sabina, you are a brave woman! Thanks for
letting me take over your blog for today! Things are about to get noisy up in
here!
I have a really weird relationship with
music when I write. Sometimes I really need it to power through a chapter. The
right music at the right moment can influence the mood of the story. Other
times, I find music a frustrating distraction.
What I wasn't expecting, however, was
music to inspire me when I wasn't writing. I crank up the iPod when I
work out, and often mid-run or mid-lift, I come to a dead stop, completely
struck by an idea that was inspired by the music flowing through my earbuds.
You have no idea how many workouts this has ruined! I would try really hard not
to pack up and go, but when inspiration strikes, sometimes you just have to go
with it.
I wanted to share a playlist of songs
that influenced Hell's Belle, but in a less concrete and more "mood
setting" way.
For example, I love Flogging Molly. And
every fight scene I wrote was was paced to their music, even if I wasn't
listening to it at the time. Similarly, Incubus struck the right mood for Hell's
Belle. Their music reminds me of cold, snow slick roads and grey winter
skies. Even Break Your Heart by Taio Cruz inspired certain moments between Max
and Nina (and someone else who I won't mention).
It may have been a full scene, a fleeting
few lines, or just a small moment captured, but the songs on the following
playlist (all saved in my Spotify or Pandora accounts) influenced the story
around Nina and company. Hope you enjoy it!
About the book:
Half-vampire,
half-human, Nina Martinez spent most of her life underground as part of an
elite secret team of government agents who quietly take down rogue monsters --
the human world none the wiser.
She moves back
to her hometown of Providence, RI to keep an eye on the recent uptick in
supernatural activity, and to help run the bar she co-owns with her aunt. Her
attempt at a “regular” life, not to mention a budding relationship with smoking
hot FBI agent Max, is cut short because of a string of ritual murders targeting
the city's community of witches.
But Nina's
investigation unearths deadly secrets from her long buried parents. Now the
target of supernatural assassins, could Nina be the most dangerous vampire
hybrid to ever exist? No wonder she can’t get a date.
