Iain Brodie ~ No ordinary Highland laird, the towering hazel-eyed, chestnut-haired warrior exhibits a blend of twenty-first-century and thirteenth-century wisdom, wit, and charm. A strategist in politics, war, and family, he loves Isobel with unparalleled passion, fearlessly expressing the depth and strength of his emotions.

Alpha-male Iain has grown accustomed to getting what he wants, therefore her struggles greatly with the circumstances surrounding Isobel’s time travel, including the reluctant acceptance of having to share his woman with another man. His difficult transformation from overbearing to understanding, and ultimately needing to make Isobel whole, helps us fall in love with him.

Unknown Fact: Iain first appeared in the modern-day Highlands at age five wearing only the Brodie clan plaid and his mother’s brooch. He was immediately adopted by an older Highland couple with no children of their own. They celebrated the day as his only birthday, which kept his memories of early childhood vivid. Until Iain’s return back in time with Isobel, modern-day Iain visited their graves every “birthday” to pay tribute to those he’d gained and those he’d lost.

Velloc ~ The sleekly built, dark-featured, blue-tattooed Pict chieftain takes what he wants, primal need and inherent right governing his actions. However, fierce emotion and philosophical logic rule the man beneath, capturing Isobel’s heart before she has a chance to safeguard it.

Attuned to his animal nature and living in harmony with the environment, Velloc is the perfect instructor on Pict traditions. His open-mindedness enables Isobel’s quick assimilation into their culture and language. Impressed by her unrelenting determination, he grants her unusual request for warrior training. But when the unexpected time comes to let her go, his possessiveness threatens to overtake his generosity.

Unknown Fact: When Velloc reveals to Isobel the loss of his first mate, he chooses not to explain the circumstances of the tragedy: that she died during childbirth along with their first child, a son. Isobel is his second chance at love and family, a bright future for a chieftain and his tribe.
