Oh my gosh, where to start?

Blood of Legends takes off pretty much right after Blood of Shadows, and we get to see a little more relaxed side of Layna. If you remember, Kester lured her into taking a much needed reprieve from.. well, everything. Torrin’s wedding, the impending war, her feelings toward Kester (and the confusion that follows), even her responsibilities as a princess. It has taken its toll on her, and the break she took was much needed.

Alas, there was a reason why Kester (alongside with her brother Ariston and Torrin) had nudged her off and away. There’s a contract out on Layna’s life, and while Layna was away, they have been trying to figure out who put the contract out there. They just kinda forgot to tell Layna about it before she left. Minor details.

On top of that there’s still the coming war, an old legend coming to life, secrets that have been buried far too long comes forth and the ever growing attraction between Kester and Layna. Basically… A normal day for Layna as a princess and as a Shadow.

I absolutely freaking loved this book – which shouldn’t come as a surprise for anyone who knows me. I adore Mariana and I am totally in love with her writing, she can build a world like no other. Blood of Legends pulls you in and you go without protests, because you just want and need to know more. I fell so hard for this world when I read Blood of Shadows and I jumped straight into it again when I received Blood of Legends.

The growing attraction between Kester and Layna is amazing and frustrating at the same time, I understand Layna’s reasoning, but at the same time, I really, really, REALLY want to smack her in the head (and most likely get cut down for it).

The price on Layna’s head must be substantial, because damn! There are wanna be assassins EVERYWHERE. Her frustration of not being able to do her job properly is tearing at Layna, and when she finds out who’s responsible…. Heads will roll, that’s for sure. Her temper has a way of getting the best of her sometimes. *grins*

As usual when it comes to Mariana’s books, I tore through this one in no time. One chapter took the next while I cursed at her several times, shed a few tears and snorted with laughter. There are few authors that can take me completely away from reality the way Mariana can.

Blood of Legends has it all to me; action, emotions, adventure, frustration, laughter and joy, tears, characters you love and hate, a well written plot. Everything I need in a good book to keep me up late at night.

The journey continues…

Layna thought leaving after Bailios’ execution would give her some peace and quiet. She was wrong. There is a price on her head, which makes it nearly impossible for her to perform her duties. Assassins are everywhere.

Layna and Kester travel to Edem, a place Layna swore she’d never set foot in again, to retrieve a hidden treasure that will change all of their destinies. Secrets are revealed and Layna worries that the coming war will take everything she holds dear.
